15 / 40 Oil for Stag

Hi,

Had an interesting chat regarding choice of oil for the Stag with Motorex who have a local depot in our area.

I told him I was lookin for 20 / 50 which he had in stock but he recommended that I use 15 / 40 as the 20 / 50 with be too thick if run in cold conditions

I bought the 20 / 50 regardless but was just wondering if there is any true in what he was saying.

Anyone any thoughts on this matter?

I would stick to 20/50 unless your car spends a lot of time outside and/or overnight in temps regularly below -10 deg which is when 20/50 gets a bit hard to stir.... if you don't intend to use your car in the depths of your winter in Milk Choccy land then you would have no need to go to a thinner oil and even then you would want a 15/50......

I would agree with Russ - modern engines have narrower oil ways and need thinner oil especially when cold. Stags were designed mostly for 20/50 at a time when most common oils were 20/50 - I use a good quality modern spec 20/50 which I think is fine in our climate.

Thanks for the advice looks like the car will get a new oil change this weekend
