    Cleco fasteners

Anybody used these instead of, or to supplement, the usual mole grip type locking clamps?

And if so, how did/do they compare with locking clamps?

The fasteners are fantastic and were recommended to me by Brian, Gresley. The clamp ones hold things ok but with nowhere near the grip as mole though.

      Cheers Jeff.
Stumbled upon them from an American site when researching another matter to do with bodywork and had never heard of them.

Tried some out at Stoneleigh which were being sold and demoed, very positive fixing (better than the thumbscrew pin type) and came in a kit with the setting pliers (expanders) and 2 of the clamp types for butt welding purposes (seen those used before and are good) can't get the grip of mole grips but you don't need to.

Haven't used them yet but anticipate they will be excellent.

I always use Clecos since I discovered them. I think they are great, they give a really positive location and in my experience are very easy and unobtrusive to use.

Really useful tools, I used mine countless times restoring my car. I bought mine from Frosts (or maybe Eastwoods).
So much easier than using self tappers or rivets.

Used them a long time now and love them.

Most I have have been "borrowed" from the aircraft assembly line where I first saw them about 35 years ago and when they were simply called skin clamps. The red ones in the pic don't use the insertion tool and you can wind them up as tight as you like. The clamp type I found is useful for nothing but looks good in the tool box.
                The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

Got to agree with you Drew! My clecos pins are still in regular use at work for aircraft skin repairs and at home during the restoration of my sons car. If you can buy the pin type clecos get them, far better than the clamps.
                  regards,
