Hi guys I've had a problem with water in the vee and pressure build up in the expansion bottle for a while now, never over heated or run hot, just wondered if there is anyone in the surrey area that has a block tester to confirm my fears! I have thought of buying a kit but seems a bit extravagant for one test. Thanks in advance Cliff

Today I have used Ian's block tester, after three attempts, one at the top of radiator and two at the expansion bottle the fluid didnt change colour at allfantastic news, so now i still have the problem of finding the reason for pressure build up and loss of water! maybe nows the time for a new header tank conversion, what do you think guys? cheers Cliff
PS Thankyou to Ian for the lend of block tester and advice, these are the times our membership makes it worthwhile.

That's a good start Cliff, I'm assuming it was up to temp and the stat had opened as we discussed, when you were at my place you said you changed the thermostat when you did a flush. Did the new one have a bleed hole and did you position it at 12 O'clock, I'm thinking along the lines of the system has still not bleed it's self properly yet. Another thing when bleeding it is to have the heater valve open.

Hi Ian I ran the car untill the temp gauge was at its normal point just below half way,and yes the stat had the the hole and i'm sure i put in the right position because that is something i was aware of,the tester doesn't fit in the top of rad so i took the reading from the ex bottle.
Steve yes i replaced the cap last year when i replaced the stat.

Did you un-clip the bottle and raise it above the Rad like I suggested when you did the testWise men ignore the advice of fools, but fools ignore the advice of wise men sigpic

You need to allow any gases, if present to escape, with the bottle in it's bracket they will remain at the highest point in the system the Rad! getting the bottle higher will give it chance to escape. the other thing to do is try and rig something up on the rad filler. I have heard of using a large plastic bottle with the end removed and the neck screwed in to the rad to give you a better chance of using the tester. if you can't get your head round it give me a ring.
