    Thought I'd reintroduce myself

    Hi all,
I've just rejoined the Club after an absence of 4 years or so. Some of you may remember me as the person who drove his Stag into the back of a Tesco delivery van back in 2007. Happily the car was repaired despite being undervalued and I am pleased to say it is still alive and well. So well in fact that we completed two very arduous runs in the last couple of years, largely thanks to a Faversham Classics built TV8 fitted by them in 2010. in September 2011 we completed the 10 Countries Run, some 2000 miles through Europe over 4 days, and last year the Round Britain Reliability Run , again 2000 miles but this time in 48 Hours. Who said Stags were unreliable?
The only problems experienced was a driveline vibration on the RBRR at the National Speed Limit (or thereabouts!) so this year the car has just returned from Favershams again, this time with a complete rear end rebuild which seems to have sorted the problem.
No real plans for such long trips this year, but rest assured the Stag will continue to be regularly used.

    It's nice to be back!

    Steve

      Hi Ian

John Hall is still alive and reasonably well and his sons are still active in farming in the village. Not many Hops now I'm afraid, mostly Apples, Pears and more recently grapes. We now have an active winery in the village and lots more houses. Still a nice place to live though

Small world Steve, Is there still a pub called the checkers or something similar about a mile or so from the farm. I must have a little trip down memory lane when the sun comes out this year in the Stag.

        Ian.

No longer there I'm afraid, turned into a pub called The Lady Jane and is now a very good Indian called The Taj (http://www.tajofkent.co.uk) It's in the middle of the village. The Pubs we have left are The Unicorn and The West End. Outside the village, the pubs left are The White Hart (Claygate) and The Stilebridge (at Stilebridge) both a mile or so away.

Thanks Steve for the info, I remember the West End. Like I said I must come down and have a drive round in the summer.

Let me know when you're planning to come down Ian and we'll compare Stags!

Incidentally you've made me look at a local website to check my knowledge of the village, if you're interested it's here:http://www.mardenhistory.org.uk)

Welcome back. I guess that's Marden in Kent not the one I know in Herefordshire.

                      Hi Steve

Welcome back to the Forum. I have considered entering the RBRR run but then I sit down and calculate the fuel bill and the fact that it equates to a short family holiday and the idea gets put on the back burner for another 2 years. I need to fit the LPG conversion and then I am up for it. Do you know Sean Bradley from Yorkshire? He took part last year in his stag.

                      Regards Bruce

                        Hi Bruce
I try not to think of the cost of the fuel on these trips It's all part of the enjoyment of running a Stag watching the fuel gauge go down, a bit like watching the 'other' gauge go up

Yes I met Sean on the RBRR last year, nice chap.

Hi Steve, welcome back, I remember the Tesco van incident, they must have had some horse burgers you wanted badly!!!!

I too would like to do both RBRR and the 10 countries, maybe one day. We do have a holiday planned for the south of France this summer in the Stag though!

                            Hi Jason
mmmm! Cheval a la mode, memories of holidays in Southern France back in the eighties!

If you can get easily to the South of France in the Stag with no issues then you should have no trouble on the 10CR or RBRR, it's the Drivers that get worn out! Even over Stelvio and the Timmolsjoch the Stag was fine, and the brakes worked well on the way down!
I was not so lucky at my previous two attempts of the 10CR in my Spitfire
