    Carpet.

I assume that Mk1 and Mk2 carpets are the same fit, but the Mk1 seems to be better quality, can anyone confirm ? Also, do the Aldridge ones need under felt in the front ?
Does anyone have a better recommendation than Aldridge? Martin.

I rate Aldridge's very highly - some others have binding at the edges which looks good but I don't think the overall quality is as good. Maybe Aldridges would do the binding (there is as special name for it that I've forgotten ) if asked.

Yes, 'mk 1 & 2 seem the same but Mk 1 is wool, 2 is tufted (nylon ?). Aldridge's don't need underfelt - the base is normally the rough felt type material but I spoke to Simon Aldridge and got a rubberised finish which I reckon is much harder wearing and waterproof.

Quick tip - Paddocks sell Aldridge trim and carpets but it is quite often a bit cheaper

All suppliers will send samples FOC if you ask.

    Cheers

Mine is a MK2 and I have just finished a full recarpet.
I used Coverdale wool carpet and was very pleased, I think their trade name for the wool is "Kensington"
I didn't use underfelt and the new carpet went in very easily, especially under the dash/console area.
I have used Aldridge but for seat foams, very good and I would happily buy from them again.
I used minimal glue, just along the sills and on the top of the transmission tunnel to allow better access in the future so I don't wreck the carpet getting it up again.
(thanks about the info for the tank)

Thanks for that guys, I have an Aldridge hood and also regard them very highly. I know the Mk1 uses wool, that's what makes me ask if it's better quality than the man made. Any other thoughts folk ? It's a big expenditure and I need as much info and advice as I can get. Martin.

I am thinking of getting the Aldrige Mk 1 carpet when the piggy bank has refilled.

I switched to Coverdale some time ago. I like their strength, and the proper sewn binding. The last set I bought was part wool, for my own car, and the only issue was the rubber mat which were too small. After some discussion, they offered to fit the larger 'Triumph' mats, and the result was very good. They said they will probably now use the larger mats as standard for the stag (but ask first to be sure).

fitted a full set to mine Mart, from Aldridge, some pics on my profile if you want to take a look. they fit very well, came with the felt attached, an easy fit and just a small amount of trimming to do.

Mine had an Aldridge set fitted in 2005, the fit is extremely good and they have worn well. The quality seems to be excellent and I like the appearance of them, in fact I heve recently cleaned them... this is a 'during' shot. They look almost new again now!

7 years and the miles you do, has convinced me Aldridge are the ones to use.

I fitted the Aldridge wool mark 1 kit to my mark 2, excellent fit and quality.
Also went with the wool kit for the boot too!
This was nearly 20 years ago though, not sure they do the wool kit for the boot now.

                        Hi Brian,

I guess that is the original colour, or very close to it ?

Do you remember what colour Aldridges describe it as ? I couldn't see the colours on their site

                          Hi Julian,

interesting point regarding colour. As most know, I highly value Aldridge stuff and have spent some time with Simon and others going through details on my upholstery before buying the whole shooting match from Aldridge. Simon Aldridge gave me swatches of all of his Triumph "browns" to compare. I actually have a Saddle Tan interior and have, over the years, accumulated four original NOS carpet "mat" sections and the rear seat kick panel too in Saddle Tan. From a hidden piece of the original main carpet I also managed to eek out a swatch where sunlight has never been.

None of the Aldridge browns matched, so I took this sample to Stoneleigh and went to a couple of stands. I find the absolute spot-on match at Robsport and have ordered a set of the basic carpet from them. (Probably someone will now say that Robsprt get theirs from Aldrige !!!!).

If you're looking for a colour match, then there is really no other way than to get swatches and compare. Believe me, the quoted equivalents in some cases don't even come close to the original colour in my experience.

                          Drew

                            Hi Julian,

The previous owner fitted them and they are described as brown on the invoice, it is very close to the original colour but a tiny tiny bit darker I think. I have recently fitted a set of boot carpets and they are super quality and fit too...

                              Thanks Drew and Brian,

                              Some useful information there.

Although I like to keep my car as standard as possible, when I replaced my carpets a couple of years ago I just couldn't resist the allure of a non-standard 'Champagne' colour

Big mistake ! Well, mainly because of me 1)I live in the country so things get pretty muddy and 2) in my impatience to get the car looking good, I fitted these carpets before I'd finished lots of the work, so now they sport patches of paint and grease etc

So, it's a case of lots of self discipline (Ooh err ) to ensure clean shoes and no work without covering carpets or, possibly revert to the original colour, hence my interest.

                              Thanks again Guys.

                              Cheers
