Practical Classics and Car Restorer on Triumph Stag Restoration
If im right in saying I think the information in this book appeared in Practical Classics over a course of a few months in the late eighties andwas very informative especially if youwas handy in mechanical and bodywork fields.
The magazine is still a good read but lacks the pages it had in those days although every page is now glossy.
Just read the first ever Practical classics from 1980. There's a step by step guide in it how tocast your own replacement trim parts at home from aluminium or brass. Real hands on stuff. Rather too many features on Jags though. Not a mention of Stags anywhere.
I've got the first 9 years of Practical Classics that I bought for next to nothing at an Autojumble a couple of years ago. I think if you look in issue 3 there is mention of Tony Hart's workshop being set up to cater for the Stag as an "emerging classic"! If I have a spare few minutes I'll scan it and post it.
The chap that did that restoration visited the SOC stand at Bromley on Sunday. He was there with the current owner of that car! Apparently it is still going strong so they must have got it right!
Like Bob I have this book, I bit dated now but still worth a read. Interesting to see how many of the Stag specialists that advertise in the book have 'folded'
You will see some familiar faces in photos in the book especially if you ever go to Favorsham Classics or South East Trimming. They look a bit older now I wager!
