Fuel cut out switch

Hi guys,

When I bought my car the cut out was disconnected, so I assumed it didnt work.
I have just dismantled it and found the metal ball inside very rusty. Having now cleaned it up
and it sticks to the magnet in the cup, and i guess when shook it jumps up and touches the two contacts at the top,
then it just drops down onto the magnet again, but something doesnt seem quite right.
Should the ball somehow stay up till the button is pressed to release it?
Any help appreciated.

Garry,

It just knocks the button upwards breaking the circuit. The ball falls down, but the button stays up until pressed to re-make the circuit. Simples...........

Make sure it works as I am lead to believe that driving without it in circuit and a resultant fire the insurers may not pay out.
The Grampian web site from Gary is good it is usually just a clean thats needed.
