Hello stagland . Can someone suggest a likely culprit that would make coolant appear at the back of the vee by the distributor. I know the heater hoses are ok. What would be more likely, core plug or gasket of some kind either manifold or head. Thanks
Ian
This is a common fault. Often when the car has been laid up for a while the water pump seal leaks for a while but starts to seal up again as the car is used. Of course there are other possible causes like a leaking hose, core plug etc.
Most likely one of the inlet manifold or water pump gasket leaking. Just stick some bar-seal or other coolant sealer in. If your unlucky it's the core plug in the inlet manifold which you have to take the manifold off, not a nice job, not nice at all.
I think I've found the problem . It looks like the thermostat housing is trying to return to mother nature .Luckily I do have a replacement ready for when I fit one of stagwebers header tanks
Ian, Just beware of the bolts, I've just changed my gasket and snapped one of the bolts. Luckily it left a stud and I was able to get it moving after 3 days of soaking Plusgas. I think they're supposed to be blind holes but my bottom bolt went through into the waterway so was rusted in. I've now helicoiled them as the bolts were too loose in the original threads.

Had this issue before I overhauled the water pump and renewed manifiold gaskets. K Seal is a quick and non detremental fix and will see you through the summer if you don't want to start pulling everything to bits, just when the weather should be turning nice.
Had no problem with the stat housing but now its developed an annoying part time leak from around the bottom hose area. It seems fine when its running and pressurised but over night a small green puddle appears and as yet I cannot find the source. Bloody annoying .
