There has been a lot of questions re mark 1 door locks being fitted to mark 2 cars. I have done a little bit of detective work and what people seem to have over looked is the body number and commision numbers refer to different things. The body number T.....LD under the bonnet refers to the order that the body shell was built painted and trimed at
liverpool. The commision number was put on the car as it went down the final production line at Canley where the mechanicals were added and the car completed. As the body shells did not go down the final assembly line in body number order but as required ie RHD white car it was selected from the storage and put on the final line to be completed. Thus mark 1 door locks were fitted up to body shell T21183LD for UK and T20987LE for USA. Thus a mark 2 car can have mark 1 trimmed shell that did not go down the line before mark 2 shells. Most other mark 2 parts that were changed on mark 2 cars were bolt on so were easier to fit. Hope this helps identify cars that should be mark 1 or 2 and of course the mark 1.5 bitzer.
