Don't exactly know when it was, but some years ago Ford replaced their popular Escort model with the Focus. Yet here in Tenerife I still daily see loads of the Escort model range, many of them in good condition, and still popular with the younger generation who put fancy modern alloys on them.
Was the Escort made of stronger metal then I wonder, or put together better than a lot of other cars of the period, or is it something to do with the climate here. As old popular cars go they seem to have outlasted most other models, and in my opinion still look reasonably good.
I never owned one myself but my son had an Mk2 XR3I and then one of the later GHIA models and he loved them. I wonder if there are as many Escorts still going strong in the U.K. as there are in Tenerife, isn't there at least one Stag owner on here who has one?
Below is a picture of some of the ones I am talking about - the older models appearing at a Classic Car show here a few years ago.
