I've got my interior carpets out at present and would like to repair the paintwork on the inner sill to floor front to back its loose and showing signs of surface rust ,not bad at all but need to stop it before it develops into a nasty . I want to finish up in original colour white. if I wire brush it and clean the surface thoroughly what would be the considered best treatment to maintain the metal i.e. a rust converter then paint and top coat any recommendations ? TIA. steve

I used Hammerite primer first on the wire brushed areas which were showing early signs of corrosion, followed by 2 coats of Hammerite smooth. Mine is Pimento Red which is virtually a perfect match so you should be OK with white as smooth comes in that colour as well.
Or
For a rock-hard finish which will last forever, its Frost's Metal Prep followed by a coat of POR.15 then a top coat of Hammerite smooth. A very high quality job but it will cost you quite a lot more.
Good luck, in terms of visual improvement, it's one of the most enjoyable jobs so far, even if you do cover it all up with carpet afterwards!!!

Hi Steve,
i did mine last year, i have pictures on my profile. i stripped it all out, cleaned off the glue(good luck with that one), sanded it all up and removed what rust i could, treated it with Hydrate as Julian has said and then undercoat with bilt hambler etch primer, then 2 coats of coach enamel, hand painted on, saved on the over spray on the dash etc, looks fab.
hope this helps
Alan
