Hello, noticed an oil leak from the overdrive. Had the car on a ramp and looked and wiped everything down whilst doing an engine oil change but unable to see where the oil is leaking from. It does not appear to leak with engine off. I have read about a breather located at the top front of gearbox to prevent pressure build up. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Andrew

I corrected my MoT tester who had remarked on an oil leak. I pointed out that it was Triumph's patent Underbody Protection System.
On a serious note, I once had quite a serious oil leak from the overdrive; like Andrew's, only when running. I eventually found a crack in the rear housing of the overdrive!
To find it, I had to put the car up on stands, take off the back wheels, start the engine, engage 4th overdrive, stick a screwdriver in the throttle linkage to give about 50mph, and then inspect the overdrive with an inspection lamp and small mirror. The crack was right above the gearbox support cross-member, so really difficult to find.
Not sure what the 'elf and safety wallahs would have said about my methods! If you do this, take great care to have the car solidly supported, and be very careful of the hot exhausts, and spinning drive flange.'72 Manual O/d Saffron Yellow

Hi Andrew,
I'm not sure if oil leaks are mentioned in the link I'm going to give but I've found this site incredibly useful about overdrives on a number of occasions. I just hope you may find it equally useful. Although the site is specifically for TRs, the overdrive, and other, sections are equally relevant to Stags.
Cheers
Julian
