I know it was wrong but!

I set off for London this morning and was on the A361 when I noticed a new BMW 2 feet off my rear bumper complete with besuited owner. Now virtually all the overtaking lanes on this road are uphill and quite steep and as I'm sure you know the Stag does about the same uphill as it does on the flat (not so what I assume was a turbo diesel BMW) as soon as we hit the first overtaking lane I drop it out of overdrive and hit the loud pedal result BMW languishing in the overtaking lane with no one to overtake this happened twice more before he gave it up as a bad job and followed me at a more sensible pace.
I like to think of it as driver training!

    You're correct - it was wrong - but what a laugh !

That's what fooled him- they are programmed to overtake on the inside.

Just exactly what they told me not to do on my recent Speed Awareness course (good advice readily ignored )

Must admit its very satisfing when you leave someone surprised that a 40 year old car just made them look stupid when there trying to show off.

There's a new short peice of duel carriage way near me and if I get a young driver in a corsa sitting up my backside just before the start i tend to give the engine a workout and leave them behind then slow down again when I reach the single carriage way, I'm a bad man

I used to enjoy doing this when I was towing the caravan with the Stag ! That really p***ed them off. Childish, but very satisfying!!

You see that kind of thing frequently on the A9, up to 75 and the following pack stand no chance of getting past. Then the dopey p***k goes back to 45

Dear oh dear, I shall have to report this to BMW.

No self-respecting BMW driver of a decent model should let us down by failing to storm past - either in or out of the BMW lane.

You and me both. My BMW is a "mere" 2 litre diesel auto estate - and after a year of ownership I am still amazed by how bloody quick it is either on the flat or up a hill. And I didn't think that 50mpg over a 400 mile run at an average of 71mph was too shabby either. I suspect the in the case that kicked the debate off here that the problem was more the driver than the car. Which, sadly, seems to be the case with a lot of BMW's. When I bought mine, I swore that I would not drive like every other BMW driver, which is what I do try to do. The problem though, is that every other driver treats me like a typical BMW driver when I'm out on the road anyway...............

Fully agree on the "Oldie beats Modern" feeling - get it in my old Escort all the time when the pitying look of the 'opponent' is transformed into a jaw-drop!

But .... I thought that a turbo engine performs at its best when going up hill as the maximum boost is reached when under load. In my old RS Turbo I couldn't see off Golf GTI's on the flat, but left them standing going up mountain passes!
                          The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

Unfortunately it seems the BMW driver is now switching to Audi!
