After the winter's hibernation (and me being away from home a lot with work), I decided it was time to get the old girl fired up this morning (for the first time since November).
Except - she thought otherwise.
I've owned the car for about 15 years and 40 something thousand miles - and have only needed to give the fuel pump an occasional thump, Usually to wake it up after the winter hibernation.
However, this morning - no amount of thumping would make the pump spring into life.
Took the pump out (I hate working with petrol - everything ends up stinking), cleaned the (well burned and pitted) points, and applied some electricity to test.
The familiar old rattling came forth - as did the drizzle from the sky.
Pump back in car - and she fired up running ever so sweetly.
Just as someone upstairs decided it was time to chuck it down at me.
So, she still slumbers in the garage - but as long as it's dry tomorrow - the winter's cobwebs are going to be well and truly blown away.
And after so many years of getting away with it quite frankly, I have chewed the proverbial bullet and ordered a new fuel pump. I'm doing the MK Classic next Sunday - and I really don't want the old girl to die on me as I'm giving it the beans around Millbrook!
