    Oil leak up top

    Hi all,
Anything to be careful of when removing these bolts and replacing the seals? It looks like I have an oil leak around them, many thanks.

    Hi Tanya,

Are you replacing the cam cover gaskets as well ? If so, replace the half moon seals at the front and back.

Also, if you're removing the cam covers, put them on a flat surface to check that they're not distorted. This happens when the fixings are overtightened - often in an effort to stop leaks ! - and so be careful not to overtighten.

    Cheers

    Julian

Hi Tanya, to answer your question, no there is nothing to be careful with, Julian has bought up some good suggestions to reduce oil leaks from the cam cover area. Can I also suggest you use a sealant around the 4 rubber "D"s. if you change the cam cover gaskets you may want to try the silicone ones, I was told to glue the gaskets to the cam covers with contact adhesive and when they are dry use silicone sealant to seal them onto the heads.
      cheers,
      Raoul

I always find that vaseline jelly smeared on the cork gaskets helps them seal very well .

I have new cork gaskets anyway from LD, so I may as well do the whole job and I've ordered new seals, many thanks.
