    Oil light and brake light.

    Hello,
what a lovely day for stags!

got it out, went down the a38 to get some parts for my landy, came back (10 miles ) drove round the village had the blower on cold, the temp guage was spot on, exactly half way all the time ideal!

popped on to the shops get a sandwich, come out, oil light and brake lights are on. check engine oil, oil in there. check brake fluid, its low, topped it up, got in light still on. checked the connector on the brake pipe slitter in the engine bay nothings changed. took the oil pres wire off cleaned up put back on light still on,
disconnected the oil pres wire no lights on dash, also no brake light.

so, im not driving it no as im seriously worried its got low oil pressure, where do i start?

Oil pressure switch gone u/s Ben? Cheap enough to change to be sure. Got a spare up here in Exeter if you want one.

Ben, you could take it out and test it. If you put a multi meter on it set to continuity and put something like a matchstick up the oil passageway you should be able to make it switch to open circuit. if it's any good.

right ok, ill try that tomorrow afternoon.

when the light came on i was away from home so i drove home really slowly, carefully still around 3 miles in all, im guessing if it was really low pressure the engine would have sized by now?

                Ben,

                This is the switch:

If you find yours is u/s then, as said, you can have the new one I've got. Or you can phone around the motor factors in Plymouth for a Unipart GPS117 equivalent.

Ben,the best thing you can do for now and the future is to fit an oil pressure gauge..
It takes a couple of days to mail order one.
Dont drive the car or run it for long as you could do more damage if the pressure is low or gone..

i had a chance to look at it this afternoon,

one thing to note it that the brake fluid was also low, could it be an issue on the brakes side of it?

the switch i have is differnt to that dave, the one i have has a rubber band round it this stops you putting a socket on to remove which means i have to go from underneath,

meaning the down pipe needs to come off, i removed the 3 flange nuts, got the U clamp off unbolted the support from the gearbox but i just cant get the down pipe off?

ill have to look tomorrow morning !!!

Sam i totally agree with you, its on my list of this to do,

i kinda like the rimmers oil and water gauge kit, but i not sure what it means by the water jacket? do i have to use a different water jacket ? or just a different sender?

Bloody hell Ben! Never heard of taking an engine out to change an oil pressure switch before............

You need a set of crowsfoot sockets. They'd have done the job from above. After all that, I hope it is the switch......
