    Alternator Help

Just bought a replacement alternator for my MK2 from Paddocks The Vectron Unit they sent seems to be missing a fourth terminal on the back. The alternator I took out has another spade on the back cover. As the wire missing a connection is also brown can I connect it to one of the other thicke browns. Not happy thought I could get this sorted this morning ready for tomorrow.

Looking at the wiring diagram all the browns go to the battery. Should I run a wire from this thinner brown to the battery? Mike

Not seen one of these personally - but typically a modern alternator requires just two connections.
One (skinny one) to connect to the warning light.
The rest (big and fat) to the battery.
The ground connection is via the casing - so no wires needed.
You may have multiple big terminals on the back of the alternator that are paralleled up anyway.

So shall I just connect the thin brown to the fat brown wire or is that going to cause problems. Mike

            Hi Mike
You don't need the fourth wire just bend it back and tape it to the others or do a good job and take it out lol

You could have stuck the thin brown on the fat terminals as it is/was the battery sensing wire and ultimately was connected to battery+ - your new alternator is machine sensed so sorts itself out.

Reminds me of another thread posted recently, ask for advice then throw it back in your face

Total waste of a glorious day. This F..ing Alternator doesn' t fit or line up . It is not a replacement part as they said it would be. Now weekend buggered. Thank you Paddocks. Do not buy Alternators for your Stag from Paddocks. These are Ford fittings . The bushings included are not long enough to allow the alternator to sit square. So now have to refit old one for the drive tomorrow. I will be asking for a total refund plus, from Paddocks thank god I bought it on a credit card. Mike

I don't recall having any advice from Dave. So how could I have thrown it back? Mike

That's a shame, the last 2 alternators I've bought came from Paddocks and fitted fine.

Do you need the the bracket Paddocks sell if you're removing an older ACR11 unit?
