    MOT hero, and its not me!

    Just thought I'd note a hero in my eyes, rather than slag anyone off, as can happen?

    Took Stagatha for her MOT this morning, having checked her over and recently fitted new calliper s & Greenstuff pads and stripped, cleaned up and adjusted up the rear brakes. Only done about 20 miles in it since, so pads hardly bedded in but brakes far, far better as I think I had seized or sticking pistons in the old ones.

    En route to MOT, pulled on handbrake, that was only coming up 3 notches, felt a jerk and it came up much higher, as if the cable had slipped?
    MOT all OK until brake test (on rollers) where all was OK, except the handbrake - rear offside would not hit target and was not hardly working. Tester had 2 attempts, but no go, kept "failing". Thought that was it and Drive it Day was a garage day - but no! Tester says swop cars around so he could get his next job onto the ramp, then let me use a trolley jack and his tools to see if I could fix it!
    Jacked up and drum off, seems to have backed off its own adjuster, so re-adjust, replace drum, but as soon as I pull on handbrake it backs the adjuster off again?

    Eventually thought I was going to have to give up, but eventually re-adjusted, built back up and it passed (just). So new handbrake levers, springs and dust covers ordered from LD, and will re-do again next weekend. So a BIG thanks to Phil @ Lloyds Garage in Stourport on Severn, went the extra mile!

    all OK I hope now, for another year.

      Hi Ian, you don't need the parts ! You had the larger half of the self adjuster on backwards, it fits, and appears to work, but doesn't, you've already fixed it ! And yes, I agree completely about the hero. Martin.

        Don't think I have fixed it yet, simply adjusted it sufficiently to get through the test. The adjuster is still backing off.
        It needs the handbrake levers and backplate rubbers anyway, but do you/does anyone have a good drawing or exploded diagram of the brake shoes, springs, adjusters etc.?

        Rimmers diagram does not show adjusters?

        Thanks Martin

          Hi Ian do a search, Julian posted a great picture in a thread. I just redid my rear brakes and that thread really helped

          Just found it http://www.stag.org.uk/forum/showthr...ht=Rear+brakes

            Hi Ian, if you regard the larger piece as a birds beak, it's pecking the shoe, not the axle.
            Good find Paul, I knew there was a pic in the ROM. Martin.

              Absolutely great - thanks. It'll have to wait until next weekend, Drive it Day and lunch beckons! Handbrake does hold, just not on 1 in 4 hills.

              ready for the off;
