    Gearbox Serial Number

Just out of interest, does anyone know what all this 'ere stamping relates to on my manual "J" Type O/D gearbox? Car was Feb 1974 build, so I guess that the 73 relates to the year of manufacture of the gearbox. I know that the LD means it isn't a TR6 box.

On the saloons, the number is stamped on one of the bosses where the clutch cross shaft goes through. I imaging the Stag is the same? The manual shows it on the LH side.

However, I've not seen an embedded letter in the number (after the prefix that is), so maybe the Stag numbering system was different.

    Cheers,
    Mike.
Mine since 1987. Finished a 20+ year rebuild in 2012. One of many Triumphs and a 1949 LandRover!

Yes, that's where mine is stamped. I presume that some of the numbers refer to something like the supplier's works, but I was wondering whether any of them relate to build standard or whatever. There seem to have been three switching points in Stag gearboxes configuration at LD490, LD5818 and LD7886.
