    True or false

We have a landrover 65th birthday do here next week, all the landys are being delivered here today [ will take pics over the weekend and put on here if anyone is interested ].
They include the first one to modern day bla bla bla.
Anyway the guy in charge saw my stag and said, do you know that six stags were factory build with the rover/ buick engine and did i know anyone who has one, he thinks Tony hart has one.
Is all this true or false

My middle son is at University in Coventry. I'll tell him to look out for the birthday party!

Incidentally, he lives in a block of flats built in Sandy Lane House in Sandy Lane. His window overlooks a large warehouse that contains all (some?) of the JDHT cars!

    I also have a 1949 LandRover!

    Cheers,
    Mike.
Mine since 1987. Finished a 20+ year rebuild in 2012. One of many Triumphs and a 1949 LandRover!

      False.

Triumph engineers were allegedly asked to try and fit an RV8 but said it wouldn't fit

Bear in mind that this wasn't all that long after the Rover Triumph (previously arch rivals) were amalgamated in to BL.

      Cheers

      Julian

Ps. Slight amendment: This is from a speech given by Brain Baylis, Triumph's Senior Designer and Project Engineer 1960 - 77:

There have been many stories about when the Rover V8 was first installed in the Stag and someone said “Those crafty Triumph engineers, way back then they were secretly fitting a Rover V8 into the Stag”. Not to my knowledge they weren’t. I can’t be absolutely specific but at least within Engineering it didn’t happen. There might have been some side shop somewhere that was doing that type of work but nothing I was aware of. Normally we knew of everything that went on but certainly within the design area of Engineering there was never any attempt, at any stage, to fit the Rover V8 into the Stag.

However, about this stage was the first time within the Engineering workshop that there were some lash-up installations done. When I say “lash-up”, they were knife-and-forked, if you understand that term i.e. they weren’t designed in. Members were cut and welded and so on, to fit the Rover V8 into the Stag. I think there were three of these actually built and 3 of the directors of the company had these cars. We thought at the time that undoubtedly it would result in the Rover V8 being put into the car, but it never happened. There was never anything said and no further comment at all made about the Rover V8. Maybe a great pity - we shall never know.
