I'm starting to get on top of the Stag now - she just passed her MoT today; I thought she would need some welding (my mate and I thought we saw a hole in the front cross member while changing the starter but it was fine) so had taken her in last Saturday. The underside was OK - got an advisory on some welding but all solid, and she failed on a brake light (it worked when I set off), the handbrake efficiency (15% - pass was 16%) and the exhaust leaking. I fixed the rear light - the new rear bulb holder didn't actually contact the bulb terminal for the brake light (wonderful pattern parts...), the handbrake I adjusted up (I'd changed the rear shoes earlier and the adjusters had obviously taken up the slack too much as my nicely adjusted handbrake had dropped out of adjustment (and I've got the auto adjusters in the right way round) and I got the garage to fix the exhaust as I'm too old to grovel under the car on a gravel to fix it - 3 hours on the drive 20 mins on the ramp!
I also have fitted the Tony Hart starter solenoid, a new battery (and a new starter motor) and given all the connector blocks in the engine bay a good clean and WD40ing; and have not had the Stag click for two days now......
So hopefully I can start putting a few miles on her and get her properly shaken down; inoperative instrument lights are new on the list (assuming the Stag Click has been banished) - watch this space.......
