    Classic Gold oil filters

I am still running with the original type of oil filter, which I am very happy with. However, I am finding it difficult to find brand name elements. One well known brand has gone back to glued on cardboard rings top and bottom it seems. I have been using Classic Gold filters which are easy to get, but I am wary of non branded things like filters.

    Anyone know who makes them?

    Brian.

    Hi pal

if you didn't use your stag so much there would be plenty of filters left for everyone.

    Some people are soooo selfish..

I will make enquiries with a local stag friendly mechanic tomorrow.

These are listed as equivalents to the Unipart GFE147 or GFE482.

There are others. I suggest a visit to your local motor factors - Partservice or equivalent.

Mann seem to be good filters and are/were the OE supplier for Peugeot and Volvo. Their part number is H 813/1n for the Stag. I believe they have plastic ends (the last few I changed were plastic now although when I was using their cartridge filters with cardboard/resin ends on my daily they were fine over the time they were used (the car went from 70k in my hands to 380k). When I last went to Partco I was given a Unipart GFE482 filter.

Things must be bad if Peter at LD Parts is suggesting we change to spin-on filters .

On the e.bay site above, key in your car details and it says that the 482 is not suitable for a Triumph Stag.

Hi Jeff, I've only done 368 miles since Saturday... what's all the fuss about? Or on the other hand maybe I have used the world's supply up...!! It will be great if your enquiries turn anything up, but I have a feeling I will have to convert. Brian.

Thanks for the replies and advice folks. Dave - thanks for the numbers, I am told that Coopers and Fram have stopped making these filters unfotunately. Unipart still do but with card washers stuck on the ends. Chas - Mann make them it seems but they also have the card on the ends. Steve - if these do not have the card on them I will be buying a big stock! Thanks for the help anyway everyone. P.S. my forum has gone weird it seems and I can't use the return key for some reason...! regards, Brian.

What is the purpose of the card on the ends? I guess it is possibly for sealing off filtered and unfiltered oil?

                            Brian.
I found the same Mann filter number on several websites mainly Marine engines and also on this site, so unless there is some reason for them to disappear it looks like many other engines use the same unit.

                              Chas,

Yes they act as seals. However, it was determined many years ago that these had a tendency to become unstuck and slip to at least partially block the oil flow. The failure of several engines was blamed on this and the SOC was at the forefront of getting Unipart to change the design to the raised ring. If the Unipart design is no longer available it is a worry and something that needs to be resolved.
