    Intermotor 11070 Coil with Lumenition?

Hi, a PO has fitted an Intermotor 11070 coil to my Stag Mk2, standard setup using the ballast wire in the loom. I know there are tests that I can do tomorrow, but just wondering if anyone can confirm that it is the right type?

Currently on points, but soon moving to lumenition (standard type, not the high performance version) electronic ignition, so if it is the right coil for points, it should be OK when I move to electronic.

Anyone with experience of using the 11070 with standard lumenition or would you get a different coil?

    Cheers

I think the 11070 is the correct part for a stag with points and ballast. The Lumenition Optronic is designed to work with the standard coil so you should be OK.

Thanks Chris. I have had my cheapo multimeter across the + and - terminals and I get 2.0 ohms. I was expecting 1.5 ish? I guess I need to check the calibration of my meter! I know that I need more than 3 ohms in total (with the ballast wire) for the lumenition.

Anyway, I have seen previous posts about upgrading to a more powerful coil. So, when I have my setup as follows: Stag Mk2, standard setup using the ballast wire in the loom but with standard PMA 50 Lumenition, would it be wise to upgrade my coil?

If so, am I right in thinking that a 'megaspark' coil is the way to go? I have read that having a really powerful coil can cause the dizzy cap (and plugs?) to wear out quicker and that more expensive plug leads are needed.

Is there a coil that is slightly more powerful than the standard coil, but not quite as powerful as one of the 40,000 Volts Lucas DLB110 that need the Lumenition Performance Magnetic setup that I don't have?

      Thanks in advance
      Keith

If it were me I would be tempted to go with a known used coil or something like the Bosch Red if you are feeling flush. The Intermotor item does not seem to be too bad.

Thanks for that Chas, I will have a search and see how much the Bosch Red is............
