    Engine details on Log Book

    Dear All,

Please forgive my lack of knowledge on this matter.

When I purchased my stag way back in 1990's it always had its Rover V8 engine whilst on the log book it stated 3 litre engine. During that time it has been insured with various companies over the telephone were I have notified them of the Rover Engine.

Now that everything is online (apart from RH) when I entered the registration it comes back with having a 3 litre engine with no place to inform them it has the 3.5 Rover engine.

My question is can I have the engine details changed on the log book?
Does the club advising doing this as details on the original engine number will be lost

Thanks For your replies in advance

    Kind Regards
    Vishnu

When you apply online, the only info they have is what is on the V5. It is up to you and your responsibility to change the details on the V5. You can then enter the current engine number.

I will have to change details when I change the colour.

Go online, it will explain all there or even the V5 should tell you.

Don't forget, the log book or V5 as it is now called is only the registered keeper and not the legal owner.........not a lot of people realise this.

      Hi Vishnu

You can apply for a different engine number and capacity on your log book but the rules about this have changed and you will probably have to get a supporting letter from a garage to confirm the details. The letter needs to confirm engine number, capacity and fuel type.

I have had to do this twice in the last year, once for my Sprint engined Toledo and once for my Rover V8 engined Toledo.

The garage that do my MOTs did both letters for me, and when I get the project Stag finished I will have to ask for another as it is currently registered with a Rover engine!

Receipt when you purchased the car, proof of purchase.

If you look at the V5 it states on top line on first page, THIS DOCUMENT IS NOT PROOF OF OWNERSHIP, It shows who is responsible for registering and taxing the vehicle.

Section 5 again states 'registered keeper'. C.4c-This document is not proof of ownership.

To make changes such as the engine size and colour of vehicle, complete section 7, sign section 8 and send the form to DVLA, Swansea.

              Hi Stuart,

If you think that's bad, just ask some of our fellow members based in Germany what it's like for them

              Cheers

The thing to realize is that although you can do a lot of things online with DVLA your car still has a "paper" based file. Without the paper work being right you run the risk of falling foul with red tape.
You should make the changes on your V5 section 7 for the changes to vehicle. Sign the declaration section 8. Retain section 9 - 11 for your own records then return the rest to Swansea. Make a note of the date and give then around a month. If you dont receive your new documents with the correct details on you will have to write to them or hang on the end of the phone. Eventually you will get the right details and documents...... Then you are back to doing things on line!

1975 and less no smog or emissions required also cost me $ 65 a year for the road tax have to love it. I must admit the Mot test would possibly put my car of the road or at least an advisory Glad we don't have that.

                  cheers stuart
