    Stag cutting out,

    Well, have been out driving the stag now for a few weeks, done around 500 miles,

    today i got the roof off, lovely!,

    got back to my barn, turned off, came back turned on idiling and then it cut out. (engine hot)


    wouldn't restart just kept turning over!

    fiddled with the choke, nothing
    messed with the fuel switch under the bonnet got it going, then drove about 30 seconds and it cut out again!

    took a while to restart eventually it did on full choke running rough, got it back in to my barn and revved missed and then seemed to run fine, restarted as well.

    i have taken the fuel switch thing apart, cleaned and greased need to put back and see...

    when it was turning over i could hear the fuel pump ticking as it does...

    it was as if it had no spark? check the oil all fine no water in it,

    new spark plugs?

    How hot was your coil? this can be problematic once it starts getting too hot, the location doesn't help either. I'd also look at the condition of all the ignition wiring as it can break down at temperature too. Can you see fuel in the filter? another possibility is the fuel is being vapourised at temperature.

      Sounds like electrical. New coil is cheap and f you don't know how old the ht leads, dissy cap and ht leads are then swap them out as well. At least by changing then u are eliminating the possible problems

        Do you have Lumenition? If you do, you were probably fiddling with the isolator right next door to the troublesome 3 pin connector between module and distributor.............

          well i had been on a fast drive, so was hot car was stood for about 10 mins got back in and temp was just over half, as expected but then began to fall...
          so coil could be the issue!
          fuel in the filter!

          possible thats it burning up i guess, :/

            i was going to get new leads and dizzy cap this week, i did check it all, looked all ok in there... Ht leads unknown age!

              i do indeed.

              My 3 pin connector is tied up, i had issues with this a few years ago...

                i have taken the fuel cut off thing out and cleaned it all up inside, is the plunger meant to be up or down?

                Thanks for all the replies so far, ill do some checking over tomorrow is coil relocation possible?

                  Down.

                  Check that the coil isn't too low in its bracket. I've seen some that are touching the block. You can raise it quite high in the bracket so it is well clear of the block.

                      Spot on Dave, coil was touching the block, im guessing it must have been that as i got it to the same temp today and it was all ok!

                          As pointed out i think the coil must have over heated,

                          i did however also clean the fuel cut out thing up so its not all bad!


                          Out of interest can this happen with the coil raised up? and have some people moved the coil?

                            Hi Ben,

                            I have seen coils moved to a supposedly cooler location, but I've never felt the need to do so.

                              I would not move the coil. If the coil palys up again then I would get a better quality coil.
