How annoying

Thought I wouldgive the old girl a tune up following resolving the issue of the base plate notturning with the vacuum due to the Pertronics screws in the kit being too long.Vacuum working well and new rotor arm fitted too. Thought I would check theairflow to the carbs to make sure they were even before checking fuel mixture.Both appear even now. Timing is set at 14degrees as always rather than 12.

She has alwaysgone like some off a stick but now after playing with the mixture and doingthese jobs, she revs perfectly and smoothly but when driven, if you put yourfoot down quickly, she kicks like mad. I have now set the mixture at 6% and itmakes no difference. Even wound them back a complete turn and same problem. Ican get the engine to miss when idling if you open the throttle quickly

Why did I touchit today and supposed to be using it Friday for a long journey

Any suggestionswelcome please as it must be something that I have touched as the car was finebefore

OK, have had time to think with a beer and the reason why I decided to look at the car in the first place was that it started playing up after gefting fuel (£25's worth) and being focussed on the vacuum thread. It made me think that I needed an excuse to give her a little TLC. So, could bad fuel give me a kicking when under load?

I think you probably now have too much advance dialled in. Try retarding it a bit to see if it improves. Cheap fuel with a low octane will not help.

Martin, you know, you may well be right. I was just about to spend some money on her this Friday too and she doesnt deserve it right now and so I have locked her away to think about her behaviour

Plenty of oil in the carb dashpots?

Yes, oil in pots but now convinced its bad fuel I got yesterday so will drain off as much as I can and get some decent stuff in the tank and test.

Just thought I would give soem feedback on this. It was bad fuel that I had picked up from the previous day. All sorted now and tuned and have now covered 350 miles so consider it cured

Saying that, it made me look at the engine and I found the problem of why my vacuum advance was not working and now thats fixed and for free
