    New wire wheels on!!!

It`s been a long time, but my refurbished wire wheels are back on the car!!

I`m hoping I`ll finally be on the road tomorrow evening after making sure my 2nd cam gasket repair job holds this time () and getting rid of an airlock in the cooling system; and filling the auto gearbox which drained itself dry over the winter....

Tanya was it expensive to have your wheels refurbished? I removed mine and found 4 alloys for sale on Ebay I still have 5 wires that came with the car i looked into getting a set of Dayton wire wheels but at 350 a wheel I decided against it. Car is coming along looking good.

    cheers Stuart

Snow is going! Still some hidden areas with snow. It's only May after all

The wheels were about Can$350/wheel (no invoice - yet), so not much difference. I think for me new Daytonas come in at nearer 500/wheel by the time they are shipped here.

Hi Stuart, I had the same dilemma and went the Dayton route. The refurbishment was going to cost the same as the new wheels. I ended up with 4 new Daytons on the car and the "least bad" of the old original wires in the trunk. The other 4 original wheels are sitting in my lockup, with the occasional "ping" as another spoke gives up the fight against time, stress and corrosion. The Daytons look good, but the spoke arrangement is different than that on the originals. If I bent one of the Daytons irreversibly, I'd likely shift to 15" Minilite replicas this time around, largely because the tire choice is so much better in that size. Original sized Michelin 185HR14 tires with the "correct" aspect ratio are available from Coker Tires, but they are incredibly expensive. At least the Minilites would be period correct.
