    COACHLINE????????

I am debating whether to do a coachline on my MK1 .

Iknow she wouldn't have had it originally but I have Mk2 seats(still looking for a replacement driver's seat)and wheels.

Here is a picture of mine currently and I will then post a picture of Dave Taylor's old Mk1 with a coachline.

Let me know what you all think

It's a close call anda matter for your personal opinion I would say, I guess if you put it on and change your mind you should be able to pull it off again without damage.

        Hi Darren

i personally like the coachlines and if your car is not as it left the factory(who's is) then go with the heart not the mind, triumph obviously liked it aswell, and at the end of the day you can always take it off, maybe do one side and live with it for a few days and see which you prefer.

You seem to have Mk2 wheels and Mk2 seats, so I can't see that originality should be an issue. Close thing, but I think it looks a little smarter without them.

I think the lines of the car look cleaner without the coachline, i don't care much for originality so my reply would be the same whether it was a Mk 1 or Mk 2 car

            cheers......Andy

I am sure there were many owners in the early seventies who bought a new MkI and then added coachlines themselves as was the trend then. So a MkI with coachlines is still reflecting the era as far as I'm concerned. I remember as a young boy racer I put "go faster" stripes on every car I bought.

back to whole originalality thing again, I would say if your car was totally MK1 then leave with no stripes but as you have already changed quite a few things then does it really matter.

for what it's worth i think the car looks a lot better without the stripes.

I'm sure that someone will correct me if I am wrong, but weren't the Stag alloys an optional extra for a MK1?

Looking through a 1972 Stag brochure there is no mention of Alloys anywhere. it might have been offered as a dealer option.

the page in the brochure with the french policemen looking at the engine

tickles me:shock: There is a chap looking at the engine whilst 'holding a fag'

I am not too concerned about the originality- there are plenty of anorak wearing people who would not even entertain luminition. My quandry is purly on appearance

                      Darren,

Personally, I think a Stag with an unbroken side in one colour looks 'unfinished'. My white one came to me with black stripes (no idea when they were fitted, or by whom), so I kept them. I liked the contrast with the black wheels, black upholsteryand black soft top set off by the white. That is also the reason why I had the hard top sprayed black when I rebuilt it.

Your car already has the chrome strip at the top of the sill, which breaks it up slightly. My car didn't have that. If I had a white Stag again, I would have black stripes.

                      Your car, yourchoice.

if mememory serves me correct on mk1's steel wheels +covers were standard, wires were the option ,standard wires for the US alloys standard on mk2's and wire option removed at end of federal car run

                            stand to be corrected

Been considering this off and on all day I agree no stripe looks slightly unfinished.
