Guys - just chatting at work earlier and the subject of "tax disc theft" came up. Personally, with full computer databases now and NPR (number plate recognition) systems today, I thought this would be low risk. Chap was saying that with our "convertibles" its easy for those "that do" to take tax disks from cars with their hoods down etc. Before computer technology, unscrupulous people used to put stolen tax disks to try to fool authorities into thinking there cars are taxed (even "doctoring" the car details (esp in the days of hand written discs)).
Just wondered if any of you had opinions on this - its not we always park our cars for long periods with the hoods down - its the opportunist theft when we've popped into shops etc. One could take the disc with you (sods law the authorities would pass by the same time and then have to go through checking procedure / hassle etc), maybe unecessary paranoia
On a similar vein, sometime ago I did also have a dilemma when in a public car park (very busy and open) my mate told me to put the hood up because "round here" its not unusual for "them" to take your car park ticket from the dashboard / windscreen and use it for themselves
Cheers
Ian
