    Fuel pump

She has been noisy since I have had the car and despite stripping and cleaning she is not pumping fuel:X

Once again my Stag has had the decency to break down at home whilst in the garage

Any advice on the best one to get and where the best deal is to be had or are these one of the few parts 'without' quality issues

    Darren,

You have obviously got a well-trained Stag there. Or one which throws a strop if it doesn't want to go out to play!

Burlen Fuel Systems come recommended for SU parts. Their website is not the easiest to navigate, so giving them a call may be the best option.

    http://www.burlen.co.uk

They do the standard type and a modern, electronic ,version.

I have a 'used-but-good' spare you are welcome to borrow to see if it really is the pump at fault if you wish.

Thanks for the offer but i am sure it is the pump. I have checked all pipes etc and had a mouth full of unleaded to prove it:?

My pump has a bark but her bite isn't up to much. I will need a replacement so I think paddocks are the cheapest at £65- oh well

don't forget your new fibre washers as the old ones will leak on a new pump/union junction

                Darren,

FWIW Paddocks also list the same as Rimmers.

My 'used-but-good' pump is in the SU box the new one I bought years ago came in. That is labelled AZX1308.

Burlen are asking £60.99 plus the usual VAT & P+P.

I'd advise getting the electronic replacement pump, you can't tell the difference from the outside, it even "clicks" like the original, and no points to worry about!

                  regards,

                  Raoul

Also check and cleanthe contacts in the inhibitor switch.

Resistance in this switch can lead to low performance from the pump.

What about using a 'facet' pump (proudly made by union employees in USA)

The design is slightly younger than the SU

The noise isolation mountings are often included in the facet kits and imo are necessary.

Facet pumps have come up on the forum before. Apparently they are really noisy and are working continuously, unlike the original SU pump.
