Clip on quarter light mirrors - anyone used them?

    Hi all

My 71 Stag still has mirrors on the wings with nothing on the doors. They're as good as useless on the motorway.

I'd like to keep them though as an original feature and don't really want to drill holes in the doors to fit others.

I can see several types of clip on mirror available labelled as quarter light mirrors. They look as if they attach to the frame of the quarter light. I can see Rimmers listed the same ones as I can see on eBay but best choice seems to be at Ratsport http://www.ratsport.triumphshop.co.u...rs/Mirrors.htm

Has anyone any experience of them and the best place to attach? I've done searches but can't find any pictures of them on Stags - only other Classics.

    Thanks for any help.

I used to swear by them when I owned a GT6, I got one to fit to my Stag and it just doesn't work very well as the angles were all wrong, I took it off in the end.

      Chris.
I had a similar problem in that the drivers door mirror on mine is non standard and I cannot find one to match. So at the Bristol classic show last Month I bought the model QT2 on the site you show.
Next was how to fix it? I have looked at several different ways but they all require cutting the seal at some point so that the mirror can clamp to the frame, for the moment it is clamped to the 1/4 light glass I know not ideal but when the soft top is up at least I can see what is about to take out my near side.
If any one has good way to fix these without cutting the seals then please tell..... probably me just being impatient and stupid (dont answer that part).

      Paul.

Chris, there are plastic swivel bushes you can buy for a few quid that may improve the vision through your wing mirrors, they are for jags but do fit the stag. someone on here may have more details for you

Tried to fit the quarter light mirrors yesterday. Can't see that they fit other than by attaching to the glass. This does give a good secure fixing but they're designed to be the other way round meaning that they point off and can't be adjusted. I'm going to see if an engineer friend can bend the brackets otherwise they're no use.
I think this is what others have said in the thread before. Disappointing that so many suppliers list them for Stags but they aren't suitable.

Getting a lift in a friends car, I was impressed by the little stick on mirror he bought from Mothercare I think, for looking at his children in the back, looks like just the thing I need in the Stag for the huge blind spot on the passenger side when the hood is up.

I know the ones you mean - but don't think they'd stay on the outside of the car when on the M1 at 70!

I've had the clip in ones bent so that the angles are right and they're OK. However they don't really stick out enough so I still can't see the back of the car so don't help reversing. Might be OK on the motorway if I stick on some of those wide angle overtaking ones onto them (as the glass is flat).

Other option is to get my engineer friend to weld on an extension.

I'll give it a run this weekend and see how it feels in traffic.

I was thinking to have one on the inside, stuck on the windscreen in a corner on the passenger side, aimed so I can see what on earth is occurring in the 90% of my nearside rear!
