    Replacing door cards

    Hi,

    I'm sure I read a detailed post a few months ago on how to get the covering off old door cards without damaging the vinyl or carpet.

    Does anyone else remember this or have a link.

    I've tried the original plus the recommended clips and just can't get more than 1 aligned and now the hardboard is starting to deteriorate around the single clip that locates - arghhh

    I think the door cards must have shrunk a bit so am thinking of using plywood - any other recommendations ?

    Cheers

        Hi Dave,

        I recently fitted new door cards (rather than try and replace the backing); however to help align the clips I cut some new membrane material, temporarily stuck it to the door, marked the outline and clip socket positions, cut out then used this as a template to lay onto the back of the door cards to align each clip with the socket positions, the cards then just snapped into place. I used the LD Parts stronger type clips which seem to be holding ok so far.

        good luck;

        Dave

          So many Dave's in the world !!

          Cheers, that sounds like a good approach before I attempt to replace the backing's which really don't look that bad.

          Cheers

            i have a new door card which i used as a template,then cut new door cards out of 3mm ply, i used danish oil on ply, when fitting the new cover on the door card ,run glue only where the line pattern is

            p.s before you remove the old cover measure,the height of the top line to the bottom of the door then your get the cover back in the same line on new door cards

            hope that helps dave
