    4 Discoveries in one day!

And no, they weren't Land Rovers.

Discovery #1: when you hear a fast fluttery rattle behind your ear, it might be the fuel pump sucking on air.

Discovery #2: there is not enough fuel in the carb bowls to get me from the garden centre to home once the fuel pump starts to rattle.

Now, luckily, as I spluttered to a halt, with the realisation of Discovery #1 sinking in, a fellow local Stag owner stopped for me and gave me his spare fuel can, what a nice man! (of course I refilled it and took it back later, what kind of person do you think I am?). Then I made

Discovery #3: If there is no hose connected to the splash/overflow drain in the filler recess, then any fuel you do splash there ends up in the boot. Oops. Naughty previous owner!

The aforementioned kind fellow Stag owner, in between chortles, told me I shouldn't ignore the low fuel warning light for too long. "Light?" I said. "Never saw one". So later, after thanking the Triumph engineers for making the dash so easy to pop out, I made

Discovery #4: If the bulb has blown in the warning light cluster for low fuel, it won't give much warning of low fuel!

    Quite a day for discoveries!
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

Remember that as a back up for the warning light, you have a fuel gauge too

True. That was on my list for "improvement", too. Only goes up to half way, even when brimmed. Goes full deflection if you earth the wire at the sender, so I think a new sender is on the cards. Now at least I know it is accurate at one point, if nothing else. "Empty". Lol

I just sold my Discovery 3 at 5 years old when the warranty was about to expire, Jesus H wotsit, have you seen the size of the repair bills for when it goes wrong AND IT WILL...... surely the most expensive 'popular' car to run! Also one of the most 'under-engineered' too.

              Cheers

                Wilf.
Now you will have to fit one of the fuel light warning delay units as the light will drive you daft, every time you go round a corner, accelerate or go up hill anything less than 1/2 a tank will make it light up.... well it does on mine.
                another roundtoit job.

My light had just started coming on - only under acceleration. Filled up and it took 12 gals.

That's a special design feature meant to prevent exactly what happened to Wilf.
Lots and lots of advanced warnings - and from a light that flashes (scientifically proven to get your attention more than a steady light).
I am 100% certain it was designed to work that way - and not on the cheap

Erroneous assumption #1: That I might actually fit a new bulb?

But that doesn't happen so much on the 2000 estates. They use the same fuel tank....

Interesting but why? is the sender unit identicle on the 2K/2.5K?
I see the brothers show 2 different parts one for saloon and the other is the same part number as that for the Stag.

That's a bit odd as the Stag and PI estate used the same tank. M.

                              Isn't the delay unit from a TR7?
