    Experiences with Rimmers bumpers

Can anyone give me some feedback on the quality of replacement bumpers from the brothers? What's the thoughts about rechrome v replacements. I'm normally a stickler for originality but am considering some Rimmers bumpers.

Has anyone fitted them and more importantly had them for a while?

Sorry for the brief question but I'm typing on a tiny phone screen and the eyes aren't what they used to be.

I've had a set of bumpers from them some 6yrs ago and the rears were a terrible fit, they sent out new rear quarters to try and help but the fabrication wasn't near the originals. angles were wrong and the whole assembly was at least 20mm to wide each side on the rear ! sent them back and got an original set chromed I think that's the way to go as you know they will be good as long as you get a decent plater. I must say although I was unhappy with the bumper quality the brothers did their best to help before giving me a full refund. steve

This experience was from 2002, they may have changed their supplier since then...

Local body shop was sorting out my rear end shunt, I ordered rear bumper from rimmers. fit terrible and metal wafer thin, bodyshop man returned them and found the second set no better. Hats off to rimmers for the full refund but could have done without the wasted time tbh.

Does the "stickler for originality" rule out stainless jobbies?

No stainless are an option as is a rechrome. I'm only looking at the Rimmers because a member is selling them. That said, with the feedback so far and some I've dug out from old threads, I think I'll leave them alone and go for a rechrome, plus metal bashing to get the dents out!

Thanks for the responses, much appreciated.

The SS ones from Wards come with all the bits and are a good fit and good value, but the SS is thinner than mild steel and therefore dents more easily. Martin.

I bought a front number plate plinth from Rimmers, I can't get it to fit. I too suggest a quality rechrome over reproductions!

Rear bumper repairs - Light years away in my resto schedule but I know I have a rusty bottom (eeww!!) on one rear quarter. Anyone had experience of bumper welding repairs, re-shaping etc before re-chroming? Is this feasible and to what level of finish must the metal repair be to get a chromed finish that will stay on? Or best left to the experts and simply foot the cost?

Based on comments on this thread and others re stainless being thinner and Rimmer issues etc, I'd like to stick with original IF metal replacement possible.
