Thanks for the caution Martin. Having enquired of the insurance company, I don't plan to raise the matter again. I like the idea of getting a gift rather than formal hire.

Hire and reward means just that gents, it means a contract etc, you can make verbal contracts, as Martin has said, but gifts are great, and favours for family and friends is acceptable too just terminolagy thats all.
Was asked to drive some kids to prom, ended up with 2 old mothers in back who were pissed and kept saying if they laughed anymore they would piss themselves. Not on my seat you don't. Jumped out before the official drop off point. 70 miles of my fuel. Did they offer to pay, no way.
