Kenlowe capillary woes

Hi all,

Thought I might call on the collective experience of the club again. I have finished putting my TV8 back together after a winter strip down, I finally got it all back together.
While I was putting it back together I decided to fit a kenlowe fan with a capillary controller. my problem is that now my top hose won't seal with the sensor in it.

I have followed the instructions (unusual for me to even read them) used the kenlowe seal, have the worm drive at 180 degrees, but it leaks like a sieve.

Anyone know of any tricks or tips to get the thing to seal.

I have only ever used one of these once before and had the same problem. I used a smear of silicon gasket around the rubber seal and capillary and let it go off a little before tightening, it worked for me

I have the same problem but mine only weeps I have am going to change to the new type kenlow sensor which fits in to the radiator cores you can get them from demon tweeks for about £40 keith

Have you tried getting a new seal from Kenlowe Kevin? They sent me a red silicone seal replacement which works much better than the original black one, it squidges out better and mine didn't leak at all.

I had the same problem. Fixed it with a rubber collar thingy that fits over the radiator pipe and has a groove in it to allow the capillary wire to slot in. Works a treat. I called Kenlowe and explained the problem and they sent me a couple in the post for free...

Hi, I couldn't successfully seal mine either. Ended up making a gland fitting similar to an electrical one and soldered the base into the l/hand tank. Cheers Ian A

I will give Kenlowe a call to try and get one of those red ones, in the mean time I can try some sealant in there.

Won't the sender unit work if on the outside of the hose and covered with some insulation? never tried to seal a hose with a bit of tube running into it like that.

No the sender has to be in the water flow, it helps if the hose is new and flexible. Mine sealed first time with no leaks,much better than I expected.

I have just removed the capillary system for exactly the reasons you give. I bought a 13 inch push/pull 2 speed kenlowe with a radiator sensor for around £85 off ebay. Bargain

This is exactly what I was referring to in my earlier thread but get them direct from Kenlowe - much cheaper and sometimes even free, for a pair!

Hi Guys,

when i fitted mine i wrapped PTFE tape around it, the part that fitted under the hose, then fitted it, no leaks and works a treat, cheap and easy to do

I have the same problem since I replaced all my hoses. I thing I have sealed it just by keep tweaking the jubilee clip a bit more each time

Seems quite a common problem, like others I used silicone sealant plus a send jubilee clip and every now and again tightened the clips to ensure a tight seal.
