I don't know if this could be any consolation, but after 30 years with the same company, I took early retirement a few years ago, with some reluctance, because I enjoyed my job so much. However, since my departure, there have been so many changes in the company that I'm glad I'm out of it.
Peter - "Employees" seem to be just numbers these days, and don't figure highly in decision making no matter how long they have worked for a Company, or what they have done for it in the past. Profits rule the roost and appear to dictate everything.
Hope your situation doesn't mean we won't see you in Tenerife again.
well I achieved a milestone on 14th May of 40 years service with my company, last wednesday 22nd May I was told I was being made redundant.
I'me F*****G speechless
Mate,
i know how you feel, I was given the same news on Thursday morning, I'd only worked for the company for three years, however I had irons in the fire and have two job offers already. After 40 years of service I'm sure you will get a handsome package. Maybe enough to retire on? My wife just added, tell him to restore another Stag, it's a good reson for getting out of bed in the morning.
all the best,
Raoul

Sorry to hear that, I managed to turn the table on my employer last August, after 30 years with them I told them, "That's it I'm off" I'll have my pension please.
Hope it all works out for you.
Ian.

That's blood awful, treachery is the word that springs to mind, my heart goes out to you. Chin up and get looking, as and when the spirit moves you. Martin (retired and bloody glad of it)
thanks for all the supportive messages guys, I'm kinda getting used to the idea now and have until christmas in the job but only because I'm managing an important export project and they're **** scared of screwing up on it. so after xmas we shall take a holibob in the sun then think about if I can be arsed to work again or manage on the pension. Oh yeh thats the other ****s trick as the final salary scheme closed in March. Don't you just love getting **** on
If they need you until December, won't that help your case for a good redundancy package ?
OK, I know it couldn't be quite like this but something like "If you want my co-operation and help until December, I want you to give me my final salary pension". Besides, although the FSPs have stopped for newcomers, I wouldn't have thought they could just withdraw yours ?
Hi Peter , 40 years working for one company is amazing . I really hope you get what you deserve. My neighbour was a year out of a final sallery pension for the prudential, he has watched the neighbour at the top of the road enjoy 12 years and counting of pension and he didnt qualify. Virtually the same age and apart from a couple of years the same term of employment. That axe sometime falls and its so crule .
All the best for the future
Edd
