    Extra vent on fuel tank?

I've investigated the constant petrol smell in my Stag and looking at the fuel tank there's a vent that's unused. So if it's filled up it pours out. And it splashes about and some comes out when driving.

I've looked at the diagram of the pipes on Rimmers site http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID005210 and that seems to tie up correctly apart from the extra vent which is in my picture attached.

Can anyone tell me what this extra one's for please? Everything else looks correct. If I bung this one up nothing seems to go wrong and I can see that the tank is vented by the other one which goes to the filler.

    Thanks

    Chris

It was used in the 2.5pi estate cars for the fuel injection return system. Easy fix. Get small piece of rubber tubing and put a bolt in the end of it and then use a small jubilee clip the other and it will seal it off. Make the piping a bout 2 inches long. Boot will smell nice again, after a few months! Take bulb out of boot light and then leave boot lid up for a week or so

Look at Chris's avatar - he has patented the self-draining boot! Actually, it also explains why the petrol comes out of the tank!

Thanks guys. I'll get a permanent fix done. Should help fuel economy as well!

It was strong Velcro which kept the Stag in the roof (or perhaps I took the photo with an iPhone and I'm left handed).

          I like your Avatar

Talking about being unusual, I've always fancied having my Stag grille badge to one side. The trouble is, I can't decide whether I would have it to the left or to the right

I've just done a repaint on my tank and fixed a small leak.
As above, the original equipment is a small length of tubing with a bung in the end.
Just a suggestion but you might think of having your tank out for a full repaint, the underside can't be seen easily and it can hide a lot of horrors if not properly protected. Mine was pretty bad and so was the boot floorpan.
The original paint was thin and corrosion sets in after a number of years.

Thanks for advice there. I'll consider getting the tank out this winter when it's laid up.
