Hi Paul
It's unlikely to leak, but it's unlikely to pump correctly with a standard pump, dependent on the amount of damageas the angled face forms part of the pumping chamber with the angled vanes on the pump...... of course if you are going electric it's not going to be a problem for you......

Either the new pump didn't have the O rings on the brass body, the O ringswere caught and damaged during fitment of the pumpor the new pump is u/s - sorry Paul, but that's the long and short of it, if the water is coming out of the slot as it can only be the pump or it's seals......

:dude:hi kryten, i replaced the old pump because it did the same, i can,t belived this one does it as well, so the o rings stop the water coming out of the slot ?. does the brass peice turn or keep still?.i think i will check if anyone living near will come and give me a look. this is giving me the !!!!!!!!. paul

The brass cage should stay still - there should be thin o rings top and bottom, top to seal coolant from the block bypassing thecage and running out through the holes in the cage and therefore from the block vent passage.
The lower o ring seals against oil coming up from the crankcase side........

:dude:hi guys , i found out whats the problem with the water pump today, the bore is in poor condition, so the seal can not work right, and hold the water , so i either remove the engine and re sleeved the bore, or get a other engine{ i got poor oil pressure with this engine}, or go for a rover v8 or ford v6, which are more usable.i can see i won,t be using this car soon!!.Paul

hi Russ, i already try-ed a silicone sealer, it worked from slowing the water leak by 90 per cent, thats how i found out it was the bore. is the windscreen silicone better?. if it is i will have a other go !!, third time lucky. can i buy it from stores and is it the same stuff as the windscreen people use?.you right that i have nothing to lose apart from watching the coolant needle incase it goes again. do you knowwhere can i get a engine from??. is there some where who recon,s them. Paul

Wander into your local windscreen fitters workshop - explain that you need a small squirt from his gun and why, but you can't bring it to him - he'll most likely give you the remains of his current tube - as I said that stuff if you let it cure correctly for 24 hrs is flippin' dynamite!!
you may be lucky and get someone to accept your old lump for exchange but maybe you could find one off ebay from a wrecked car that you can see and hear run...
Caveat Emptor though, Paul....
