Shelf Life of AQF - Auto Trans gearbox fluid???

Rummaging in my garage today I found a bottle of AQF which has probably stood there for 10 years - the price is still on it at £2.59 for one litre! - It is still sealed! Can any oil experts out there tell me if it is still o.k. to use it to top up my auto box or should I consign it to our local re-cycling depot and wait until the new stuff arrives from Paddocks? Your thoughts and comments will be much appreciated. Regards, John.

I see no reason why it shouldn't be perfect.

    I'd use it!

I was hoping you'd say that! Thanks. Regards, John.

There are thousands of gallons of it, older than that, still doing it's stuff in transmissions everywhere. Martin.

And it was in the ground for millions of years before that too - and that's where it will all end up again after it's leaked out!

Not if the Environment Agency have anything to do with it!

They get very upset if you return oil to the earth. ..

Old cars returning to the red dust from whence they came is an entirely different matter

Better not let them anywhere near my car then!
It was gratifying (in a bad way) to see the Stag engined Ferguson 4x4 Triumph 2.5 Estate at Gaydon - which has had a zillion hours spent on it over the last three years does not leak a whole lot less than my car.
I look on it as the automatic rust prevention system Ferguson added to the cars too

Iv'e been told by someone in the trade who can remember back then that Stags brand new in the showroom had drip trays under the auto box!

At Jack Barclays carpeted Rolls Royce showroom in Oxford yonks ago, there were drip trays under the cars, all with oil in them, no disgrace. Martin.
