Speedo Problems

My speedo has been a bit erratic since my rebuild. It used to be fine before - it was a BW35 box but has now been converted to Man O/D. I have had the Speedo along with all the dials re-calibrated by Alan, fitted a new speedo cable and Angle Drive but still have the same problem. Whilst having a drive the other day my Speedo stopped working altogether but the odometer was still working clicking the miles away.
Then a couple of days later whilst going down a fast dual carriageway the speedo came back to life, although it is still erratic.

Has anyone experienced anything like this before and if so what are the things that cause it and more importantly, what is the cure?

I reckon it has to be in the speedo head if the odometer is still recording - that proves the cable is connected and turning.

Another vote for Speedo head.

Whilst the speedo will be wrong for your car you are welcome to give my speedo a go and see if it works in yours for the price of postage (it does not shake all that badly at all).

I think I will take you up on that offer if you don't mind? At least I can have a working speedo whilst I play around with mine.
