Has anyone used wrightons of redditch for re-trimming ?
They have given me a good quote, but i have no knowledge of their work/reputation.
Thanks in advance,ken.
Just looking at their seat covers on fleabay. Has anyone used these and are they any good? If you don't want to post your response please feel free to PM me Terry.
Specialists (and specialist's) are of variable provenance and capability.
I would be loathe to trust a job to someone I had never heard of and have no experience/reports of, presumably in the hope of saving a few quid. I have heard nothing bad about Aldridge, as with so many things you get what you pay for. When (if) you sell the car (never say never) having work done by the likes of Aldridge will add to the appeal and you will have had comfort in the meantime.

And best to use someone who is long established aswell
Wise men ignore the advice of fools, but fools ignore the advice of wise men sigpic
The hardest marketing job is attracting new customers and keeping them .Aldridge are 100% in the lead for both, for me .It's great not to worry about the work being done . Especially when your spending 100's or 1K+
I've seen photographs of work done by Aldridge and it looks great, but at the end if the day it all boils down what you can afford or are prepared to pay. I received a quote from them for £672.00 to recover two front seats - that's labour only, add another £630.00 for covers and foam and you're looking at £1300.00 for two front seats. As our existing covers are good apart from one seat base cover we've decided to buy a new seat base cover and new foams from Aldridge and have a go at fitting them ourselves.
This is not just a Stag, this is a Mimosa Stag - well it will be soon.
Well at least I got my answer ,even after nearly 2years,,,
I ended up using Aldridge, they aren't perfect, but I am mostly happy with the result.
Just minor niggles really, for instance-I didn't get the 'basket weave ,as I'd specified and they sent me a LHD carpet set instead of RHD.Hence the parcel shelf was LHD also, They did change those.
As for the advice on fitting their kit, there wasn't any,as well as no instructions. They presume you are an expert and know what you are doing. or use their fitting service. So thankfully I did a search on here to get specific details on how the odd thing fitted or went together.
Thank goodness for the SOC forum.
Ken.
Have to say I am amazed at the prices charged for the replacement covers and fitting etc. for the Stag.
I am currently restoring a TVR which seems to carry an addition tax for most parts and accessories. However I have just, (yesterday) been to fetch my re-upholstered interior from a firm just outside Blackpool, D&C Trim http://www.dctrim.co.uk/
They previously worked for TVR and have since set up in part of the old TVR factory re-trimming TVR's and many other makes, they had Astons and Jensons in when I visited. Real old fashioned workshop with a warm welcome and a strong brew whilst they talk you through the work and show you examples. George the senior trimmer (nearly 70) is worth a chat and to watch him works is a real education!
My seats were stripped, with foams replaced where required, trimmed in high quality leather in two colours with contrasting stitching throughout. They look stunning and the work is impeccable. Total for that work was £730. I also had my door cards which are quite complex two piece affairs completed and the large centre console section refinished to match in two tone leather with all the gaitors for the gear stick handbrake etc. completed. They also re-trimmed the two hoops which form part of the surrey top of the TVR's hood, all again in matching stitched leather. They make the hoods from scratch each made to individually fit the car as there are no two the same!
I also had a full set of carpets made which were all bound with matching leather, good grade of automotive wool carpet and again beautifully finished, there are more than thirty sections in the car so a fair bit of carpet! Going to be a few days of fun for me when I get stuck in with glue
I mentioned the interior of my Stag and they were more than happy to help. They had dashboards from Fords and some fabulous steering wheels they had done so I know where I will be heading when I want to refurb the Stag. I took my seats out of the Stag and fitted Fiat Coupe seats a few years back as the replacement cost was OTT for the end result imo. I have kept the seats as I may get the lot done in leather for less, as they aren't a complex seat to be honest. I think you need to look elsewhere to save money and get the job done. Unless of course you want to maintain the seats as they were I guess, but I am confident a good trimmer could get the results required
All the best with your refit
Cheers Glyn
Great story Glyn - got any pictures of the seats? Nice to hear a good experience from someone going to a specialist, especially if they are new names to the Stag world. How did you hear of them? TVR Forum?
Paul - 3 projects, 1 breaker - garage built and housing 2 white Stags. One runs, one doesn't
That sounds like a quality job at an excellent price Glyn. The £730 they charged sounds like a bargain when compared to the £826 Aldridge charge for a pair of leather seat covers. Add the cost of replacement foam and the fitting charge and you're looking at £1600 for a pair of leather seats! Would be great to see a photo of your finished TVR seats if you have one.
