    Electrical trouble I think

Having fixed an air leak I went to get fuel, massive flat spot above 3.5k RPM, checked CO and rich, makes sense after setting when I had the air leak I suppose. Reset mixture and went to test, drove round corner and car died and wouldn't restart. Fuel in filter bowl, pump working fine, engine bay temp is hot, lumenition is hot and battery cables are fairly hot. I test for a spark from the coil lead with a screwdriver, can't see it but can hear it faintly. The coil is v hot, not unusual but test spare new one, no change. Leave car for 15 mins, cools down 15C or so and then restarts. My suspicion is that this is an electrical issue, the engine earth strap is connected tightly, covered in crud through so I will clean mating surfaces. Where else should I be checking for earthing problems?

    Hi,

If you suspect the electronic ignition or other electrical component you could try getting hold of some freezer spray. it comes in a can and is used to rapidly cool a circuit. you use it to cool each suspect part in turn, the one that starts working when cooled is the culprit.
