Dashboard red light

Hi could anyone tell me what the red light is for on the dashboard above the speedo and rev counter on the mk.1 it useally comes on with the ignition and goes off when starts, but it came on and stayed on bright red? all the other light are out including the ignition light? so it should be charging ok I switched it off and restarted it still on ? came back home switched it off restarted it and now it has gone off?? cheers Martin ps I looked in the book and it says it is the seat belt light???

Its your Brake warning light,Difference in presure front to back circuits ,you may have a leak or no fluid in resivoir.Switch will need resetting when rectified by centering the shuttle.the brass unit under the wiper motor with brake pipes coming from it is where the switch is.
