Sat nav question ,non stag but it is to do with driving.
I have a TomTom (920 I think it is) with not entirely up to date maps that you can borrow for your trip if you like.
Apart from new roads, or junctions that have changed - you're good to go.
Adrian.
Hi Adrian ,that a very generous offer,I'll keep that in mind whilst i explore the options.
Cheers Steve
iPad and copilot live HD. It was something like £25 for the world!
You download the maps you need before you go on holiday (all as part of the initial app purchase) and it works superbly.
No data downloads while abroad, nice big screen for you and your co-pilot.
I bought a iPad suction mount for our French driving holiday last year and it was great, even giving a constant display of the current speed limit (in mph) which was handy in France with the speed limits being kph of course.
Your iPad needs to be the 3G version for the GPS though, non 3G does not have GPS.
Cheers.
That's a bit bigger than having a Tom Tom stuck to your windscreen! Can you actually see where you are going, or do you use the camera to show where you are going?

A word of caution about a related matter to anybody going to France.
Any device giving warning of speed cameras (I think they are honest enough to refer to them as speed cameras, not safety cameras) are strictly illegal and can be confiscated on the spot, plus a hefty fine.
The French police will search a car even if they just see a sign or suction mounts and you may have to prove that your sat nav does not give warnings of speed cameras.

I told Avis where to put it when they tried fleecing me $30 a day in Israel for an iPad to use for navigation.
Supposedly I should perch it on top of the dash - ready for it to land on the floor first time I went round a corner.
Really.................
Regarding the iPad, yes the suction mount was attached to the windscreen, but positioned more to the passenger hung down over the dash, so not affecting visibility.
The French mapping although indicating the current speed limit, has no speed camera warning.
if you have an iPad with GPS, a very good solution.
