    Well done, old girl

Just got back from a trip to France with 22 other classics and covered just under 1000 miles in 4 days. My old girl performed perfectly (and the car was perfect as well )

Yesterday saw nearly 200 miles in a pretty hot France in less than 2 3/4 hours and the temp gauge sat rock steady on the 'E' and the oil pressure never faltered although it does run a bit lower than I'd hope (although if there is pressure then it's doing it's job). The non stop 200 miles across the UK was somwhat slower, but not because of the car

The service guy had to help out an Audi Quattro, a Rolls Royce Corniche an MGB and a TR6 but my Stag didn't need anything.

Only downside ? I've got an embarrassingly red face from two days topless in good weather

    Happy days. Cheers

    Julian

Hadn't thought of that - and I am of a nervous disposition!

Oh yes, well done Julian. This is something I would love to do but SWMBO isn't keen. She'd rather fly somewhere warm and spend 2 weeks laying on the sand reading books............. Yawwwwwnnnn!

It is not compulsory to take the wife, Dave.

My wife has absolutely no interest whatsoever in old cars, so it was my son and I that went to Classic Le Mans last year and have just returned from the Spa Classic. Wife was quite happy at home watching Coronation Street, cross stitching, entertaining her friends and whatever else she wanted.

              Regards

You're right, even I wouldn't want to see photos of me topless

We were having such a great time that I actually didn't take too many photos and I've just realised that SWMBO has taken our camera off to show here work colleagues. I'll check it when she gets back and if there's anything worth posting I'll put it on here later.

One place we visited was called the Chateau de Coucy - amazing place ! The original walls were 8 metres thick but it was destroyed by the Germans toward the end of the first world war. The Mayor let us park inside the grounds and came himself to meet us and was photographed in front of the line up of cars.

Those of you who read either Practical Classics or Classics Monthly, may recognise the names John Simister, Kim Henson, Rob Marshall or John Simister, all of whom were on the trip.

My wife also has absolutely no interest in cars and it has taken a little while to get her to come on trips like this with me but now she really enjoys them. The trick for me was to explain that many of the other wives also have no interest in cars and bit by bit she has grown to enjoy the trips. In fact on two evenings at dinner, rather than having male/female/male/female etc around the table, we had one half of wives and the other half was guys - it worked out brilliantly They nattered about grandchildren and make-up whilst we talked about gearboxes and master cylinders The sights and countryside we saw also made it enjoyable for my wife.

Hey ho - better go and clean up the car now

                Cheers

                Julian

                  Hi Julian,

It sounds like you had a great trip! I wonder where you went? Northern France by the sound of it. We got back from 4 days in Normandy last Thursday - having finally signed for and taken possession of a house 2 days before! I am hoping that soon we will be taking the Stag there too.

                  Cheers,
                  Mike.

                    Hi Mike,

We spent the first night at Chateau Tilques and the next two near Laon which borders on the Champagne region. We also visited the place where the First World War armistice was signed at Compiegne as well as Pierrefonds with its amazing chateau. A great time had by all

Now, for those, like me, who suffer from Stag paranoia, a slightly reassuring photo. This pic was taken on the morning of the first full day outside Chateau Tilques. Already the Rolls and the TR6 had needed assistance, whilst the filling in the sandwich, my Stag, went the whole distance with no trouble If anyone says to me that Stags are troublesome then I can tell them that they're less so than a Roller

                    Cheers

                    Julian

SWMBO is home now and so here's another pic. We've got quite a few of the scenery but hardly any of the car

I reckon I should ask for a clever caption for this one (The statue is napoleon)

                      Cheers

                        We almost crossed routes Julian

We were at Compiegne the previous week

                        ...and the Pierrefonds too

By the way, Rolls Royce don't break down, they "fail to proceed"

                        Regards

What a co-incedence I wish that car park in Pierrefonds was as empty when I went there

Mind you, there were some 'unusual' creatures in Laon

                              Hi Don,

Can you make sure it's sunny there around the middle of July please

Re your earlier message (sorry I didn't respond earlier) but you're right, we will be quite a bit further North than you this time. We'll be close to Sarlat, but in previous years we must have been close when we stayed near to Condom

                              Cheers
