    Description of a Stag

I've just seen an advert of a Stag and thought that some of the description was rather interesting and correct - "The gem that was the Triumph Stag was born in dark times for the British Motor Industry ......."

Mind you, this particular example has had a £32,000 restoration

    Cheers

    Julian

The Triumph Stag offers Michelotti design, V8 power, 2 + 2 accommodation and open air motoring. The gem that was the Triumph Stag was born in dark times for the British Motor Industry and, despite the aforementioned attributes, rather than becoming the world beater it deserved to be, it became a missed opportunity.

Despite this inauspicious start in life, those of us who knew could see what a fabulous motor car the Stag really was. There have, over the past 4 decades, been enough like minded people to keep the Stag alive and fully realise its potential. Modern oils, corrosion inhibitors and antifreezes have, along with the skills of many specialists, enabled the Stag to blossom into a highly usable and reliable classic with values ever rising.
The example offered here was the subject of a major £32,000 restoration in 1999/2000

Is it my imagination or is the inside of the boot lid a different colour to the outside....?

I think Julian is saying that the description is fitting to all our stags and very well to, don't you think. It matters not if they are red, black, blue, white or even yellow .
In good condition or not they always get heads turning.

I think the dark times of the British motor industry came after the last Stag came off the production line. Though the seeds were being sewn during the Stag's production time the era of Michael Edwardes's battle with Red Robbo at British Leyland came about 1978 and into the eighties. Margaret Thatcher, though managing to tame the minors union, could not save BL/Rover from going down the drain. Lets face it, though the Stag had the bad reliability tag that affected sales and subsequently ceased production in 1976, the saloon models of the 2000/2.5 range sold very well.
