Where do the pretty wires go?

So, Ive connected everything to the fuse blade and the relay board, Iam looking for a purple for the glove box light which I cannot find, however, you will see in the picture, I still have 6 wires going to who knows where?

Two of them, one of which is purple, are on a block connector such as attaches to something like a flasher unit, might it be for the hazard unit which my manual doesn't seem to show, and does every bodies flasher unit just dangle around near the steering column?

I also attch a picture to ask what folk think about my having painted my wheels gold.

There are a number of wires near the relay plate that are taped up and do nothing although, offhand, I don't remember which. However, I do have a chart that tells what all the colours do. Can't post it right now on this tablet but will do later on.

And yes, the flasher unit does dangle although a clip used to be available.

      Cheers

        Hiya Nambo,

Nice to meet you at the Warren yesterday (sorry I can't remember your name - I have a memory like a sieve).

I think the connector block is for the hazard lights flasher (assuming yours is late enough to have one fitted). Not sure about the others off the top of my head. I can't see the other wires in the photo I have got of my relay board in front of me

One of the first ever posts on here was regarding a thought i had about painting my Stag Alloys body coloured - white in my case. I think some one posted saying that I'd get chucked out of the club for that!!! Personally, now i would stay with black, but the gold looks ok.

The purple wire for the glove box light is on the part of the loom that all the gauges plug into. It runs under the speaker grille, across the top of the heater.

        Rgds

Thanks guys, and that looks like a useful chart Julian though Iam still confused as my hazard connector doesn't have light green and pink but green/yellow and Purple, the purple has continuity with the battery control purple, guess its more fun with the multimeter. This car is going to take a while.
Thanks for liking the colour Vince, I debated about colour for the 4 years the body took, I was considering Metallic Orange but the painter claimed orange is a difficult colour, plus I wondered if I was getting a bit too old for something too flashy, so figured the Land Rover Cayman Blue was quite refined but still looked pretty.
Another colour I might have chosen was a blackcurrent, but the painter needed a match that I couldn't find.

              Hi Nambo,

Both the ROM and the parts book are riddled with errors and also many things changed during the production of the car so you always need to take everything to do with a Strag as a guide . Hope it's helpful though.

              Cheers

I can see what they meant

                The gold look alright though.

When I bought my car my wheels were green (metallic ) on a green body. I didn't think it looked too bad but I preferred the original look and so soon repainted them.

                  Cheers

I think that is a Mk 2 wiring - Mk 1 was different in quite a few areas. Just in case anyone gets confused !

                        That looks useful, cheers Paul.

Though I had a cluster of purple wires under the speaker grill, and another lot above the fuse blade, they are all factory capped, as I didnt want to break into them, I just run a wire to the purple from the first fuse which is on the same Purple circuit anyway.

So something nice occurred to me today regarding my horn, I have always have a pair of those little red fiamme horns, one wasnt working so good anyway, but I have a nearly new genuine Lucas horn I had taken off my Norton Commando which I decided to use, couldnt find anyway to mount it though without drilling a bigger hole, then I happened across the pair of Norton horn mounting blades, and what do you know, the two holes line up perfectly with the two pre-drilled horn mounting holes on the STag.

Tomorow will be an easy and enjoyable day as I will mount all the front lights!

Now that I have today fitted my instrument cluster, I realise I hadnt understood your comment, thinking you meant the main wiring loom where it runs under the speaker grill, I have indeed found the missing Purple wired on the seperate part of the loom that attaches to the instruments.
Still have a few extra ones though!

I think I had some spare wires when I rewired mine, a UK car might have the wiring in for air-con? Also in my case, I fitted a '74 loom to a '73 car so had spares left over for the hazard flashers and seat belt warning lights that I did not need.

                            Cheers
