    "MOT Today embarressing or what"

MOT Today all going well , then the car died on the ramp, have had trouble with a bad correction on fuel pump, but no! , no power to pump, then the light came on in my little brain, The inertia switch looked ok, pull it up, pushed it down, away went the pump, and the test resumed.

must have been triggered by the car being driven over the rolling road?, must have a sensitive one .

Anyway car passed again, slight play in top column bush, slight play offside front wheel bearing, (next slot on nut will be to tight).

    3600 miles last year.

    Cheers UK's most eastly Stag

MandM, your my hero! I went for a run in the stag yesterday and only got about a mile when the bl__dy thing cut out in the middle of a roundabout. I know a roundabout in Wick (there's only two) is not as busy as some further south but the number of cars that turned up when I stopped felt like I was in the centre of London!

Anyhow I phoned my brother to give me a tow home but I already suspected the pump as it was not clicking when the ignition was turned on. I was going to start stripping the pump out on Saturday to have a look at it when I read your post. Went straight out to the stag five minutes ago and pulled and pushed the inertia switch a couple of times and hey presto, pump started clicking and car started first time!

Pity I didn't know that yesterday as I could have saved myself some embarressment having to push it off the roundabout!!

      Thanks for the post.

Crikey Martin, you've got to do something about that, it's bordering on sad ! Take the inertia switch to bits and clean up the steel ball and the brass contacts, then re-assemble with some grease, otherwise it'll happen again. Martin.

I presume you mean the bush that passes through the steering column?
Though I have one of those aftermarket ring things, with the 3 tiny allen screw pegs, which does improve it slightly, Iam wondering why a carefully selected amount of shims between the steering wheel boss, and the inner afore mentioned bearing, wouldnt do a far better job of keeping that bush tighter?

As for your wheel bearings, I just fitted one of those spacers with shims that mean you can do the wheel up really tight, completly cured my front wheel bearing play of which I had rather a lot.

Congratulations on passing the dreaded MOT Martin. Where were you last N&N? Are you going to the Felthorpe Flying Club due on 21st? Next event for us is Old Buckenham although it looks like I've only got a pass for the Saturday.

My Stag has an aversion to MOT stations as well! I took mine to my local MOT station once and it proceeded to dump its coolant all over the floor - caused by sudden failure of the inlet manifold gaskets! Also once I drove it to the MOTstation and parked it up. I subsequently went to drive it into the garage and it point blank refused to start and had to be pushed in! They got it going and it passed though - despite the problem being that the earth strap had come off the engine and it was earthing through the accellerator cable. They didn't notice and neither did I until I got it home after and grabbed hold of the rather hot cable!

                    Rgds
