Driveshaft UJ,s

Can anyone tell me if the circlip type and staked type UJ's are interchangeable?

If not, is it possible to change the whole driveshafts?

I have great wear in my UJ s but don't fancy the staked type as I don't have the "special tool"

Any help is very much appreciated

Im pretty sure its the same size , Its just how its located that's different , what type are on the car ? It is possible to change the drive shafts over but that seems a waste just to change a drive shaft U/J . There are companies that can replace staked U/Js E.V.

I am not sure what is on at present but its a 1972 car so I assume its not the circlip type

I don't really want to take them of until I buy the new ones,
It was only when looking at rimmers catalogue that I noticed there were two types and don't want to get the wrong ones
BUT if they are interchangeable it doesn't matter?

They are interchangeable or you can even use half and half if you want. Just dump the stacked ones when they are shot and fit some circlip type ones.

I believe that Staked and circipped UJ's may be the same size, but the staked ones do not have the circling groove!
You would therefore have to machine the groove once the staked UJ's have been removed, and ensure they are equidistant, or you could have a UJ imbalance. I entrusted mine to Proptech on Hartlebury Trading Estate, Kidderminster.
